This is my SunVox 2024 entry, Spaghetti Express Train.
The story behind the track was about a wild west steam train quickly traveling from town to town, from day and night, towards to the destinations.
I made this track because I was inspired by a sample library, called the spaghetti western by fluffy audio. I found it was a cool library because it had instruments specifically made for the made for the iconic soundtrack style that is based on composer, Ennio Morricone, known for his famous soundtrack “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”. However, The library was… expensive; it was not Hans Zimmer String level of expensiveness, but this library wouldn’t be used a lot due to the obscure setting of instruments.
“Will it SunVox? That’s the question.” I already had a synth trumpet module in my failed synth brass collection (which the trumpet is the only usable module), that means if I could made some guitars, I could basically writing these kind of genre. The guitar sound was quite easy, but it didn’t sound realistic due to due to lack of guitar playing skills. To solve the problem, I decided to search some guitar tabs, and wrote chords based on the tab, to make it sounding more like a guitar strum rather than a piano chord. To further achieve the realism, I have also watched trumpet players performing Morricone’s soundtrack, to see how they change dynamics and perform vibrato:
As a result, I have completed the track, and I also decided to use this track as a compo entry because spaghetti western is rare in SunVox, and I want to show the potential of this highly underrated tracker which is far more versatile than you would imagine although it doesn’t support plugins.
Enjoy!
